I’m excited today, there is a ton of hot music dropping! A couple of weeks ago, it was all about the 50 cent and Kanye face off, well for the rest of us who prefer something on a lighter lyrical note, today is the day. Just some of the albums dropping today include, Keyshia Cole, Jagged Edge, Jilly from Philly (Jill Scott), Will.i.Am, Queen Latifah, and of course Mr. Von Wayne Charles aka Wayne Wonder.
It’s been 4 long years since the Portland native blessed us with his #1 hit single No Letting Go, but there have been 7 albums in between (some are re-masters)! (You, Me, and She (2003), Grey Skies To Blue (2004), Inna Bashment Style (2005), Meets Chaka Demus & Pliers (2005), Reggae Chronicles (2006), Don’t Have To (2006), and Original Bombshell (2006). You can’t say the man doesn’t work!
Wayne Wonder first gained popularity in the late 90’s with his cover of Never Gonna Give You Up, but admits it wasn’t until he did It’s Over Now that he felt his career start to take off. By the early 90’s it was “Wayne’s World” and his career skyrocketed with such hits as Movie Star, Baby You, and The Saddest Day. In 1993 Wayne pledged to only do his own material and has never covered a song since (I’m kinda sad about this, I love when reggae artist cover American songs because a lot of the time they sound better than the originals and there have also been several times I didn’t even know the song was a cover, but I definitely respect his desire to be original.) In 2000 Wayne formed his own record label Singso and a number of artist have released under his label. Well the legend has returned and here’s the video for Again which is on Foreva and was also on Reggae Gold 2007. Have a great day and go buy some music!
