Thievery Corporation at The House of Blues Dallas

On October 25th of this year, I had the opportunity to hear Thievery Corporation live at The House of Blues Dallas. I’d been sent the group’s music via email a few months back, but didn’t initially give it a second thought. Eventually I got around to listening to some of their music and really enjoyed it. Not too long after that, I was invited as a special guest to their live performance here in Dallas at The House of Blues, and I accepted.  I figured it was my chance to really see what Thievery was all about.

When the show date finally came around, not only did I get a press pass to the show but I was given access to the photag area (dead in front of the stage) and took some of the most awesome pictures ever. I also got access to the stage itself for pics and went backstage after the show. Needless to say, I was happy (and Twittered about it all night), but more importantly Thievery Corporation was G-R-E-A-T! As we say here in Texas, I had a “fonky” good time! LOL! Rob, Eric, Sleepy Wonder, Rootz and Zeebo, and the whole group kept the crowd rocking and on their feet with their eccentric blend of reggae, dub, Indian, and jazz music.

Thievery Corporation was in town promoting their fifth album release, Radio Retaliation. The Washington, D.C. based group has been bringing their eclectic blend of global and politically charged music to the masses since 2005, and has steadily increased not ony their fan base and creativity, but their level of social consciousness as well.

I was personaly impressed at the diversity of not only their music, but the band itself and was also taken by their dedication to social causes such as The UN World Food Programme.

With the music world turning into one mindess blend of bass lines and senseless lyrics, it was refreshing to experience a taste of something new. Attempting to classify Thievery’s music is futile in my opinion, they don’t fit neatly into any one genre but comfortably encompass a multitude of them, and that’s the way I like it. Just believe me when I tell you that when you hear Thievery Corporation, you’ll most definitely know it!

Check out pics from the show below and Thievery Corporation’s website here. You can see more of my pics from the show here.

Special thanks to Brittany Somerset for my first, but not last Thievery experience and for being such a gracious host.
