Tanya Mullings-Canada’s First Lady of Reggae

With over 20 years in the music business, Canadian reggae recording artist, Tanya Mullings, continues to demonstrate not only her staying power, but her undeniable talent as well. As the daughter of the late and renowned reggae producer, Karl Mullings, it’s quite obvious that reggae greatness runs in the family. Just this month, Mullings was nominated for 3 awards (Artist of the Year, Top Reggae CD/Album, and Best Female Vocalist) at the 2nd Annual Reggae Music Achievement Awards. Her 2004 hit songs, “Love and Affection” and “A Love Thang” were also both featured on the original TV pilot for the hit Canadian show, Da Kink In My Hair.
For Tanya’s latest CD release, “Music Is My Life” (which is an excerpt from her father’s headstone) she enlisted producers and artists, Devonte (of Tanto Metro and Devonte), Morgan Heritage, Shocking Vibez, Craig T (of T.O.K.), and Mega Banton. The album also features a moving tribute to her father, entitled “Daddy” and the lovers rock hit, “I Don’t Mind” featuring Morgan Heritage, which you can listen to below.
When Tanya is not entertaining her fans, she serves as the Vice President of I.M.O.K. (In Memory of Karl) Enterprises, an artist management firm, which boasts a roster of hitmakers such as Half Pint, Make Boyz Cry, Nadine Sutherland, and Tanto Metro and Devonte. Tanya also co-hosts the popular radio talk show Rebel Vibez with her sister Carrie in her spare time.
