It’s Calabash Time!

The Calabash International Literary Festival will take place on May 23-25th, 2008. The literary festival was founded in 2001 by Jamaican author Colin Channer (who is by the way, an awesome writer) with the support of two his friends, poet Kwame Dawes and producer Justine Henzell. The Calabash Festival is hailed as the Caribbean’s only annual English-speaking literary festival, and is absolutely free to the public. Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth is the Festival’s venue and authors scheduled to appear this year include Margaret Cezair Thompson, Beverley Anderson Manley (former wife of Prime Minister Michael Manley), and Derek Walcott. You can get more info on the festival at calabashfestival.org.
