There are those who sing and then there is the one and only Sanchez. With hits like Frenzy, Loneliness, Stuck On You, One In A Million, Praise Him, and Brown Eyes he has set the standard not just for reggae singers, but all singers.
Nicknamed by friends after Brazilian soccer player Hugo Sanchez for his advanced soccer skills, Kevin Anthony Jackson was born on November 30, 1964 in Kingston, Jamaica. Growing up in a strict but close religious family, Sanchez eventually moved from being a choir director to a sound system selector. In 1987 he released his cover of Lady in Red and in ‘88 he released his own hit, Loneliness which skyrocketed his career. Subsequent hits followed, including If I Ever Fall In Love, Hello, and Amazing Grace. Sanchez has been awarded honors ranging from Songwriter of The Year, Best Dressed Male Artist, to Reggae Ambassador but he has still manged to remain humble, classy, and a survivor. Earlier this year Sanchez was poisoned while performing in London England, in an thrwated robbery attempt and almost died. Thankfully he fully recovered and has continued to perform and tour abroad. Have a great weekend!
