Happy Birthday Robbie Shakespeare!

54 years ago today, the world welcomed one half of what would become one of the most influential reggae production teams ever, Sly & Robbie. Robert Shakespeare was born in Kingston, Jamaica on September 27, 1953. In the mid 70’s he began working with Lowell “Sly” Dunbar and together they rocked the landscape of reggae and all music forever. It is estimated that they have easily been involved in one way or another on over 200,000 songs! If you have ever enjoyed a reggae song, it’s a pretty good chance they had something to do with it. They invented popular riddims such as Rockers, One Drop, and Bam Bam, and for you pop lovers they even produced No Doubt’s “Hey Baby” and have worked with numerous international stars. In a music world where hardly anyone ever stays together, it’s nice to see the best of the best still going strong. You can visit their website here to see some great pics and see what their working on now! While you are there check out their playlist, it’s fire! Happy Birthday Robbie! Here’s a video of the Sly and Robbie Taxi Gang live in concert in Seattle last month:
