(yesterday was the 13th anniversary of the passing of Garnet Silk)

With hits like Splashing Dashing, Zion In A Vision, Hello Africa, Oh Me Oh My, and Growing, Garnet Silk was both talented and conscious. The reggae legend and Rastafarian was born on April 2, 1966 in Manchester, Jamaica. Garnet Damion Silk entered the music arena at the tender age of 12 under the DJ name Bimbo and eventually reached stardom in 1992 with hits like Nothing Can Divide Us and Mama. The circumstances surrounding his death are sketchy but what we do know is that there was a fire in the home of sister in Mandeville on December 9th and after successfully evacuating his entire family Garnet re-entered the home once he realized that his mother was still in the home and both subsequently perished in the fire.

Here’s Garnet performing “Mama” live, a loving and all-the-more touching tribute to his mother considering that they died together.
