Alicia Keys, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Junior Reid, and Beenie Man at AMA’s

After being bored to tears for practically the first hour I was more than happy to get some relief by Ms. Keys. Bwaay, Alicia Keys turned the AMA’s into the dancehall tonight!!! If you missed the performance I can understand, it’s not like the AMA’s are at the top of a lot of people’s must-see lists. (I’ll upload the performance as soon as I get my hands on it.) I was really surprised that she took it to that level, so many artists and record labels are scared to alienate their core audiences by doing anything but cookie cutter guest performances, so big props to Ms. Keys! I really like the fact that she spotlighted reggae and even took a backseat when she started to do some choreography with her dancers while all the artists performed, not too many internationally successful artists would do that especially while promoting their brand new album.
I’m still wondering why some sources said that she would be performing with Sean Paul and Shabba Ranks (which would have been interesting as well) and also why Chaka Demus & Pliers and Junior Reid were not even mentioned?? It really grates on my nerves the way some artists are continually slept on and swept under the rug while others are sometimes undeservingly given all the limelight, oh que sera, sera I guess.You could see the majority of the crowd not knowing exactly what to make of the performance but those who “knew the deal” were really enjoying themselves! I’m still on the hunt for pics that feature all the performers and not just Alicia….so check back tomorrow and hopefully I’ll have some visuals for you!

I was one that didn’t have the AMA’s on my radar, but I actually ran into Junior Reid at LAX on my way to Vegas for the weekend. I had photographed him at last year’s Marley Fest in Long Beach (and a number of times in the past). When I mentioned this to a friend, he clued me in on the AMA performance. While Dick Clark Productions seems to be doing everything they can to get the video pulled, I was able to view it and it is simply AMAZING! Wouldn’t it be even more amazing if she toured with these guys!!!
Hey Robert, thanks for stopping by! I wasn’t aware that anyone was trying to pull the video, is it a copyright issue?? Alicia really represents with the reggae artists from her collabo’ with Baby Cham to her performance at the AMA’s, she’s doing big things for the genre!
hey i was feeling that erformance aswell i ha d to watch it again when it was on repeat.ive been lookin everywhere on the web 4 another chance to hear it again alicia keys was making the AMA lively
