I’m a big fan of Alaine Laughton, after years of having only Fiona in my female singer’s repertoire I was ecstatic to discover this beautiful new voice some time ago. Alaine first appeared on the entertainment radar in the US when she appeared in the 1998 movie, Clara’s Heart alongside Whoppi Goldberg. While working by day for JPMorgan Chase (something we both have in common) she sang background for Roc-a-fella Records by night before deciding to truly follow her dreams and return to Jamaica and give her passion for music the full hundred. Alaine received almost instant airplay after hooking up with the production team Desaca on the songs Chakka Chakka Love and Baby You, upon returning to Jamaica. 2005 proved a monumental year for her with the worldwide success of No Ordinary Love, one of my favorites.

I caught wind of a new video for her latest release, Rise In Love while on the MySpace page for phenomenal Jamaican director Ras Kassa (if you don’t know him, now you do), so you know I had to get digging to see if I could find it….and I couldn’t for now, so I had to settle for a tribute video to Alaine featuring the song, check it out below. In her blog Alaine expresses her dedication and excitement concerning her latest release:
“We intended it to be a ONE day shoot!!! ha ha ha!!!! It turned out to be a four day shoot..with so many things going…well …VERY DIFFERENTLY than we intended them. We faced wardrobe malfunctions..talent walking off the set …cars breaking down in the middle of shooting…torrential rainfall…you name it…we faced it on this video…
Buttt….as the song says….WE RISE….and we did…Kassa ,Joe B and the whole crew created magic and worked non stop despite the challenges that we faced…
