2008 Reggae Sumfest Video, Pics, and Updates

Unless you’ve been under a rock somewhere then you already know that Reggae Sumfest is happening in Jamaica right now! Sumfest kicked off on this past Saturday with Beach Party Night at Tropical Beach in Montego Bay. The audience was treated to a fashion show by Bighead Clothing and Collection and Envy Shop and performances by Rising Star alumni, Romain Virgo, Nickeisha Barnes, and Kareen Rickett.
Last night (Thursday, July 18th) was Dancehall Night and a slew of artists took the stage with the help of backing band Live Wyaa. Of course the headliners of the night were Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, and Mavado, whom by most accounts keep the crowd hyped and longing for more. Other performers for the night also included Munga Honourable, Spice, Macka Diamond, Elephant Man, Busy Signal, Vybz Kartel, Anthony B, Ninja Man, Wayne Marshall, Voice Mail, Erup, D’Angel, and Assasin.
Bounty Killer was immediately arrested after his performance at last night’s show, after using profanity when fans became upset about his unfriendly remarks about Ninja Man and Bounty Killer. It seems Bounty’s choice words were meet with unceremonious boos from the crowd, resulting in his use of profanity. He was charged with disorderly conduct and using indecent language..tsk tsk Killer.
Tonight’s performance is set to keep the island rocking, as even more incomporable artists are scheduled to take to the stage, including U.S. heavy-weights, R&B singer Keyshia Cole and everyone’s favorite African rapper, Akon (I hope he performs Mama Africa, a very nice song indeed!). Reggae crooners Jah Cure, Courtney john, L.U.S.T., and Terry Linen will also share the stage with conscious entertainers Queen Ifrica, Coco Tea, Richie Spice, and more.

As more pics and video become available I”ll update right here. For now here’s video of Vybz Kartel backstage last night at Sumfest. Check back for more updates later.
